Privacy Policy for Outlook Budget
Last Updated: September 2, 2026
Outlook Budget is a personal budgeting application from Red Mesa Studios LLC ("we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what the application collects, why, and what we will never do with it.
It applies to Outlook Budget specifically and is separate from our Mobile App Privacy Policy, which covers our mobile applications.
1. What We Collect
Bank account information, with your permission. When you connect an account, we receive from our data provider:
- Transactions — the date, the amount, and the merchant description as your bank reports it
- Account balances
- Account names and the last four digits of the account number
- The name of your financial institution
Your account with us — the username and password you set in order to sign in.
We do not collect your location, your contacts, your device identifiers, or your activity on other sites. We do not use advertising or third-party analytics.
2. We Never See Your Bank Login
Connecting an account happens inside Plaid Link, a secure flow provided by Plaid Inc., our data provider. You enter your bank credentials directly with Plaid or with your bank. They are never transmitted to us, and we never store them. What we receive is a token permitting us to read the account information listed above — nothing more. It cannot move money.
Plaid's handling of your data is governed by their own policy, available at plaid.com/legal.
3. What We Do With It
Only one thing: show you your own money. Transactions are organized into categories and periods so that you can see what you have spent and what is left. That is the entire purpose of the application.
4. What We Do Not Do
- We do not sell, rent, or license your data. Not to anyone, not in any form, not aggregated and not anonymized.
- We do not share it with third parties for their own purposes.
- We do not use it for advertising, marketing, or profiling.
- We do not use it to train machine-learning models.
This is our own commitment, and it is also a condition of our agreement with Plaid, whose developer terms prohibit selling end-user data.
The only circumstances in which we would disclose your data are a valid legal demand, or the defense of a legal claim — and we would tell you unless prohibited from doing so.
5. How It Is Protected
- All traffic is encrypted in transit using TLS.
- The token permitting access to your bank connection is encrypted before it is stored, with the key held outside the database.
- Databases are encrypted at rest.
- Servers accept administrative access only by cryptographic key, block repeated failed logins automatically, and receive security updates daily.
- Access is limited to the owner of Red Mesa Studios LLC. No employee, contractor, or third party has access to your financial data.
We do not claim to be impenetrable. Our security posture, including its known gaps, is described in our Information Security Policy.
6. How Long We Keep It
For as long as you keep your account. We never delete your history on a timer. A budget's value is historical — last year's spending is what makes this year's meaningful, and a ledger that forgot old transactions would be useless. Nothing expires, nothing ages out, and no transaction is removed because it got old.
Your data is deleted only when you ask for it, or when you close your account.
7. Your Choices
- Disconnect a bank at any time. This immediately stops all further collection. You can do it from within the application, from your bank, or through Plaid's own portal at my.plaid.com.
- Ask us to delete everything. Write to support@redmesastudios.com. We will act on the request within 30 days — that is our deadline for carrying it out, not a limit on how long we keep your data. Everything associated with your account is removed, except anything we are required by law to keep, and we confirm when it is done.
- Ask what we hold. We will provide it in a readable format.
8. Children
Outlook Budget is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
9. Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes materially we will update the date above and notify account holders before the change takes effect. We will not apply a new use of previously collected data retroactively without asking you first.
